Alex Johnstone was a North-East farmer prior to being elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999. Married to Linda, the couple have a grown up son and daughter.
Alex is currently the Scottish Conservative Spokesman for Infrastructure and Capital Investment, including Housing and Transport. He also represents the Conservatives on the Welfare Reform Committee, the Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee and is substituting on the Equal Opportunities Committee.
In addition, Alex serves on the Scottish Commission for Public Audit, the board of the Scottish Parliament Business Exchange and is a Trustee of Scotland’s Futures Forum and the Scottish Parliament Pension Fund. Alex has previously served as Conservative Chief Whip and Business Manager and as a member of the Parliamentary Bureau and Corporate Body as well as a period as Convener of the Rural Affairs Committee.
