The option of a Dundee bypass has been suggested for years. Have your say- is it worth spending money on?
A report from the Scottish Government back in 2008 suggested a new "Northern Peripheral Bypass" - not dissimilar to Aberdeen's AWPR. It would have left the A90 at Invergowrie and rejoined north of Dundee at a point south of Tealing.
It was estimated the bypass would cost between £250 million and £500m at that time. This was clearly too much, and instead investment in the Kingsway was prioritised.
Now, in 2025, cars are not going away- and drivers pile into Dundee to get to and from the North East of Scotland every day. Maurice Golden MSP believes he acts with local support when he pushes for a bypass to finally be built.
The cost is high, but the benefits-including lower emissions in the city, faster travel, fewer accidents- would be very long-term.
