Gavin Nicol is a Scottish Conservative and Unionist councillor for Brechin and Edzell.
He has represented the ward since 2017 and brings extensive experience of local government finance, planning and service oversight.
Gavin currently serves as Convenor of the Tayside Valuation Joint Board and Convenor of the Tayside Contracts Joint Committee, roles that place him at the centre of decisions affecting public sector efficiency, property valuation and shared services across the region. He is also the Council’s spokesperson on the Tayside Valuation Joint Board, providing scrutiny and leadership on matters with a direct impact on council finances and local taxpayers.
Within Angus Council, Gavin sits on the Policy and Resources Committee, Housing Committee, Civic Licensing Committee, Development Management Review Committee and Development Standards Committee. Through this work, he plays an active role in shaping decisions on planning, housing supply, licensing and the responsible management of council resources.
As councillor for Brechin and Edzell, Gavin is focused on protecting local services, keeping council tax among the lowest in Scotland, and ensuring continued investment in roads, pavements and crossings to keep towns and villages accessible. He has consistently opposed workplace parking charges and other measures that would increase costs for residents and local businesses at a time when households are already under pressure.
Gavin is well known locally for his hands-on approach and accessibility, and he continues to work closely with residents to resolve day-to-day issues while pressing for a more effective, financially responsible council that protects frontline services.
